Soil Setoda

One of those places that's hard to explain until you're there. Small island, sea air, lemon groves – and a café downstairs I'd go back to on its own.

Hotel

Who is it for

  • Cyclists on the Shimanami Kaido looking for a proper base – the route passes right through.

  • Anyone who wants an island without the effort of a remote island

  • People who appreciate a place that feels local without trying to.

Good to know

  • Rooms are simple with shared bathrooms – the appeal is everything around it, not the room itself.

  • Minatoya downstairs does coffee, dinner, breakfast – wood-fired, local ingredients, genuinely good. You won't need to look further most evenings.

  • Yubune bathhouse is just across the street – shared, beautifully designed, open to locals too.

  • Shiomachi Shotengai, the old shopping street, starts right outside the door.

What stood out

Sitting outside with coffee, sea in front, lemons growing somewhere behind. The kind of morning that makes you extend your stay.
